VALLEJO, Calif. — Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD) will host three town hall meetings this fall to gather community input on the second phase of school closures and consolidation.

The meetings will take place on:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 10, 6–7:30 p.m. at Jesse Bethel High School
  • Monday, Oct. 20, 6–7:30 p.m. at [Location TBD]
  • Thursday, Nov. 13, 6–7:30 p.m. at [Location TBD]

Spanish and American Sign Language interpretation will be provided at all meetings. Each session will also be recorded and posted on the district’s YouTube channel the following day; however, they will not be live-streamed.

During the sessions, district leaders will provide background on how the district arrived at this point, outline the next steps in resizing, and gather public feedback. Community members can comment, ask questions, and share their perspectives.

The district closed two schools last year due to declining enrollment and financial challenges. Despite those closures, VCUSD continues to operate schools at less than 50 percent capacity, creating a continued need to right-size facilities and align resources.

“Our community deserves transparency and a voice in shaping the future of our schools,” VCUSD Superintendent Rubén Aurelio said. “These town halls are a chance to come together, discuss the realities we face, and create solutions that put students first. As we move forward, we must ‘Think VCUSD First’ in every decision.”

The VCUSD Board of Education has committed to making closure or consolidation decisions by December 2025, with any changes taking effect in the 2026–27 school year.

Community members who need accommodations are encouraged to contact the district at communicationsoffice@vcusd.org as soon as possible. For updates on meeting locations and additional information, visit VCUSD’s closure and consolidation web page.
